UpCycle Creative Reuse Center is an Alexandria, Virginia based non-profit that connects creativity and conservation by providing a resource center for reuse materials and a creative making space for the community. UpCycle is rethinking the traditional notion of waste by collecting cast-offs from our community to serve as creative materials.
UpCycle is dependent on individual, corporate, foundation and government grants to provide a materials resource center and arts educational outreach. The materials resource center in the Durant Arts Center, which is open to the public, collects, reuses and redistributes materials Wednesday through Saturday .

The SmartPhilm Festival is the first film festival with films shot and edited exclusively on smartphones and other mobile devices. Maker Faire is proud to join them in bringing the smartphone film making and storytelling revolution to the Maker movement.
The goal is to provide a platform to the global artistic and storytelling community to document and produce their own stories in the most accessible way. Open to aspiring and professional filmmakers of all ages, SmartPhilm levels the playing field so creative minds no longer need expensive cameras and equipment to bring their stories to life. All one needs is a smartphone that shoots video, write a script, make a movie, see it on the big screen.
This year selected films will be screened during the Maker Faire at George Mason University (4400 University Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030) on June 2, 2018.
The SmartPhilm Festival will also hold a workshop for attendees to teach the art of shooting films on a smart phone device!
